What do I love about: The greatest sales training in the world?
The 10 scrolls in this book reminds me of the book think and grow rich by Napoleon Hill. The author reiterates habits and virtues you need in your arsenal as you ferret successfully through this journey called life. I particularly love the prayer in scroll 10 and I make sure to say it on a daily basis. Infact the prayer is what drew my attention to this book. I found the beautiful prayer many years ago and recently discovered the prayer was an excerpt from a book. I knew I had to read the book.
What do I not love about: The greatest sales training in the world?
I read this book as an e-book and I have found historically I do not enjoy e-books. In addition this book is written in old English so you may find it different in the read.

Notes from The greatest sales training in the world
The ancient scrolls written by OG Mandino (genius author of the book the greatest salesman in the world) contains priceless keys to wisdom and knowledge that can unlock the door to success and happiness. It laid in a palace dome guarded by armed men. The writer focuses on the content of these scrolls in this book
The 1st scroll – Habits
- Time teaches all things to him who lives forever but I have not the luxury of eternity. Yet, within my allotted time I must practice the art of patience for nature acts never in haste. To create the olive, king of all trees, a hundred years is required. An onion plant is old in nine weeks. I have lived as an onion plant. It is has not pleased me. Now I wouldst become the greatest of olive trees and, in truth, the greatest of salesmen.
- The only difference between those who failed and those who have succeeded lies in the difference of their habits
- Developing a habit involves 3 phases. The process involves repeating an action that you wish to become a habit and repeating it until it becomes part of your nature. During the first phase you may experience some initial discomfort. This is an exercise of the mind, and like any other form of exercise, may seem like hard work. Don’t let this discourage you; instead, let it serve as encouragement. Continue to repeat the action and let the presence of discomfort serve as an indication that you are on the right track
The 2nd Scroll – Love
- I will make love my greatest weapons
- You cannot have a genuine love for others unless you first have some degree of love for yourself
- Life is what happens to you when you are planning on doing something else
The 3rd Scroll – Persistence
- I am not a sheep waiting to be prodded by my shepherd, I am a Lion and I refuse to talk, walk, to sleep with the sheep
- I will remove from my vocabulary such words and phrases as quit, cannot, unable, impossible, out of the question, improbable, failure, unworkable, hopeless, and retreat; for they are the words of fools. I will avoid despair but if this disease of the mind should infect me then I will work on the despair
- I will not allow yesterday’s success to lull me into today’s complacency, for this is the great foundation of failure
- I will persist until I succeed- in this manner daily failure will never overtake me if my determination to succeed is strong enough
The 4th Scroll – Self-esteem
- There is no room in the market place for my family, nor is there room in the home for the market. Each I will divorce from the other and thus will I remain wedded to both. Separate must they remain or the career will die. This is a paradox of the ages
- What we achieve or fail to achieve in life does not depend upon who we are; it depends on who we think we are.
- We all have the tendency to avoid opposition because it is easier to travel the path of least resistance. You could say that opposition is the fertilizer of growth, for though it may not be very appealing, it is actually causes us to expand our abilities
The 5th Scroll – Time
Look to this day for tomorrow is only a vision and yesterday is already a dream. But if we look well to this day, we can make every tomorrow a vision of hope, and every yesterday a dream of happiness
The 6th Scroll – Emotions
- Weak is he who permit his thoughts to control his actions; strong is he who forces his actions to control his thoughts
- You can love the light because it shows you the way, yet you can also love the darkness, for it shows you the stars
The 7th Scroll – Humor
- Never will I labor to be happy; rather I will remain too busy to be sad. I will enjoy today’s happiness today
- People like to do business with people they like, and they like people who make them happy
The 8th Scroll – Progress
- To surpass the deeds of others is unimportant; to surpass my own deed is all
- The law of increasing returns works in the opposite way. This law demands that when you do more than what you are paid to do, then you will be paid more
- I will commit not the terrible crime of aiming too low. Aiming too low is not a crime punishable by our judicial system; it is punishable by the universal laws that govern life
- Success to me is the ongoing process of striving to become more. It is the opportunity to continually grow emotionally, socially, spiritually, physiologically and intellectually, while contributing in some positive way to others
- Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measures. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are we not to be? You are a child of God. You’re playing small doesn’t serve the world. There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around us. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us, it is in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
The 9th Scroll – Action
- My dreams are worthless, my plans are dust, my goals are impossible. All are of no value unless they are followed by action
- It is better to act and fail than not to act and flounder
- Only actions determine my value in the market place and to multiply my value I will multiply my actions
- Now I know that to conquer fear I must always act without hesitation and the flutters in my heart will vanish
- Every act is a seed that will create the plant of a corresponding reaction, and eventually produce the fruitful harvest of an ultimate result
The 10th Scroll – Prayer
Oh creator of all things, help me. For this day I go out into the world naked and alone, and without your hand to guide me. I will wander far from the path which leads to success and happiness.
I ask not for gold or garments or even opportunities equal to my ability; instead, guide me so that I may acquire ability equal to my opportunities. You have taught the Lion and the Eagle how to hunt and prosper with teeth and claw. Teach me how to hunt with words and prosper with love so that I may be a Lion among men and an Eagle in the market place. Help me to remain humble through obstacles and failures; yet hide not from mine eyes the prize that will come with victory.
Assign me task to which others have failed; yet guide me to pluck the seeds of success from their failures. Confront me with fears that will temper my spirit, yet endow me with courage to laugh at my misgivings.
Spare me sufficient days to reach my goals; yet help me to live this day as though it be my last. Guide me in my words that they may bear fruits; yet silence me from gossip that none be maligned.
Discipline me in the habit of trying and trying again; yet show me the way to make use of the law of averages. Favor me with alertness to recognize opportunity; yet endow me with patience that will concentrate my strength. Bathe me in good habits that the bad ones may drown; yet help me to count my blessings of today. Expose me to hate so it not be a stranger; yet fill my cup with love to turn strangers into friends.
But all these things be only if thy will. I am a small and a lonely grape clutching the vine yet thou hast made me different from all others. Verily, there must be a special place for me. Guide me. Help me. Show me the way. Let me become all you planned for me when my seed was planted and selected by you to sprout in the vineyard of the world.
Whatever becomes vividly engraved upon your subconscious mind will eventually become a reality in your life
