What do I love about: Tuesdays with Morrie?
This is a short Prose of a dying man who decides to impact the wisdom of life to his young student who was willing to show up every Tuesday at his dying bed. I love how each Tuesday was focused on a particular theme such as Marriage, Family, Life etc.
This book reminds us of the most important things in life.

Notes about Tuesdays with Morrie?
On Life & the World
- So many people walk around with a meaningless life. They seem half-asleep, even when they are busy doing things they think are important. This is because they are chasing the wrong things. The way you get meaning in life is to devote yourself to loving others, devote yourself to your community around you, and devote yourself to creating something that gives you purpose and meaning.
- The most important thing in life is to learn how to give out love and to let it come in.
- People are only mean when they are threatened.
- The important questions in life have to do with love, responsibility, spirituality and awareness.
- Giving is living.
On Marriage & Family
- Marriage is a very important thing to do and you are missing a hell of a lot if you do not try it.
- If you do not respect the other person, you are going to have a lot of trouble. If you do not know how to compromise, you are going to have a lot of trouble. If you can’t openly talk about what goes on between you, you are going to have a lot of trouble. And if you do not have a set of common values in life you are going to have a lot of trouble.
- The fact is, there is no foundation, no secure ground, upon which people may stand today if it isn’t the family. It’s become quite clear to me as I have been sick. If you do not have the support and love and caring and concern that you get from a family, you do not have much at all. Love is so supremely important. As our great poet Auden said, ‘Love each other or perish’.
- If you want the experience of having complete responsibility for another human being and to learn how to love and bond in the deepest way, then you should have children.
On Emotions
- Do not cling to things because everything is impermanent.
- Detachment does not mean you do not let the experience penetrate you.
On the Fear of Aging
- If you are always battling against getting older, you are always going to be unhappy because it will happen anyhow.
- It is important for the old not to envy the young. But the issue is to accept who you are and revel in that.
On Money
- Money is not a substitute for tenderness, and the power is not a substitute for tenderness.
- Devote yourself to loving others, devote yourself to your community around you, and devote yourself to creating something that gives you purpose and meaning.
