Privacy
Last updated October 2026.
This is a personal site. It is not a business, it sells nothing, and it has no accounts to log into. What follows is everything it does with information about you.
What the site collects on its own
Nothing. The pages are static files. There is no database, no login and no tracking that runs by default.
Analytics
This site uses Google Analytics, and it is off until you allow it. Nothing is requested from Google — not even the script — unless you press Allow on the banner. If you decline, no analytics cookies are set, no data is sent, and you are not asked again.
If you do allow it, Google Analytics records things like which pages you visited, roughly where in the world you are, and what kind of device and browser you used. It does not tell me who you are.
You can change your mind at any time:
The contact form
The contact form is handled by Formspree, which passes what you send to my email inbox. That means Formspree processes your name, your email address and your message on the way through, under their own privacy policy.
Spam protection uses Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks that a person rather than a script is submitting the form. It runs only on the contact page, and only when you are there.
I keep form submissions in my email for as long as the conversation is useful, and I do not add anyone to a mailing list from a form submission.
Booking a call
The contact page offers a Calendly calendar, and nothing is requested from Calendly until you press the button to open it. If you never press it, your browser never speaks to them.
If you do open it and book a time, that shares your name, email and chosen slot with Calendly under their privacy policy. You never have to use it — the form reaches me just as well.
Images
Book covers and the pictures inside posts are stored with Sanity, which is also where I write, and your browser fetches them from Sanity's servers rather than from this site. That means Sanity sees your IP address and browser when a page with images loads, in the same way the hosting does. It is not analytics and it is not connected to anything else here.
Hosting
The site is hosted by Vercel, which keeps standard server logs, including IP addresses, for security and reliability. I do not read them and cannot connect them to anything else on this site.
Links out
Reviews link to Amazon and to publishers, and the research page links to journals. Those are ordinary links with no affiliate tags and no tracking parameters attached by me. Once you follow one, that site's privacy policy applies, not this one.
Your rights
Under Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA), you can ask what personal information I hold about you, ask for a copy, ask me to correct it, and ask me to delete it. In practice that usually means an email you sent me through the contact form.
To ask, use the contact form. I will reply within thirty days.
